Brooklyn Supreme Court Judge Suspended After Being Charged With Conspiracy & Obstruction
On October 11, 2019, a Kings County Supreme Court Judge (with 13 years on the bench) was suspended following federal charges of conspiracy and obstruction of justice. Justice Sylvia Ash, the presiding judge of the commercial division in Kings Supreme Court since January 2016, had been the Chairperson of a state chartered credit union until her resignation in August 2016. It has been alleged that Justice Ash accepted "tens of thousands" of dollars in improper reimbursements from Municipal Credit Union. She was released from jail last Friday after she posted a $500,000 bond.
Federal prosecutors have also alleged that Justice Ash tried to conceal evidence of financial misconduct by Kam Wong, a former CEO of Municipal Credit Union by deleting text messages and lying to investigators about Wong's conduct. Last year Wong pleaded guilty to stealing millions from Municipal Credit Union.
