Disbarred Nassau County Attorney Sent to Prison For Stealing $785,000 From Clients

It was reported in today's New York Law Journal that Nassau County attorney, Steven Morelli has been sentenced to 2 and a half to 7 and a half years in prison for stealing settlement funds from approximately 17 different client's. Upon pleading guilty to these crimes, which include a felony, Morelli, age 61, was automatically disbarred from the practice of law. The punishment will include restitution of more than $600,000 in addition to the $170,000 restitution he has already made. Morelli was formerly a partner in the firm of Leeds Morelli & Brown and focused on employment discrimination and education law.
