Mother of "Walking Dead" Stuntman Killed During Stunt Files Wrongful Death Suit
Last July a 33 year old stuntman on the set of "Walking Dead" fell headfirst from a balcony 22 feet to his death because he missed the padded landing target by inches. It was reported yesterday that the mother of stuntman, John Bernecker, filed a wrongful death action against several production companies and an actor who may have interfered with the fall. It was claimed that the production companies operated on low budgets, failed to employ airbags or safety spotters and never rehearsed falls. The actor who played the part of "Dwight", Austin Amelio was supposed to have shot Bernecker and pretend to push him over the railing off the makeshift balcony. Amelio allegedly grabbed at Bernecker's clothing (instead of merely pretending to) which changed the direction of the fall away from the target padded area and onto concrete. It is claimed that Austin Amelio is a relatively inexperienced actor and that he should not have been involved in the stunt scene.
