Plastic Surgeon Admits His Malpractice Caused Patient's Breast & Genital Injuries
Last week the Appellate Court covering Suffolk County denied a plastic surgeons appeal of an award of $600,000 for pain and suffering to a 41 year old woman who who underwent a total abdominal lift surgery, three pubic surgeries and a breast implant surgery all performed by Dr. Edward Bieniewicz. According to the Trial Judge, during trial Dr. Bieniewicz conceded that he departed from accepted standards of plastic surgery in each of the 5 surgeries he performed on the plaintiff. The sole issue in the trial became the question of how much money should be awarded to the plaintiff for fair and reasonable compensation. Considering the damage he did to his patient, it is outrageous that Dr. Bieniewicz had the gall to challenge the $600,000 awarded and thereby delay his butchered patient's recovery.
The Trial Judge reported that: "when the defendant performed surgery at the junction of the plaintiff's vulva with the upper inner thigh, the defendant cut the plaintiff's nerves and injured her causing numbness....and loss of vaginal sensation that cannot be repaired...." The patient was also left with permanent disfiguring scarring in her pubic region. To compound this nightmare, the plaintiff will have to undergo corrective breast surgery to correct a deformity caused by misplaced implants, with one being higher than the other. This will require the removal of both implants, replacement with new implants, elevating the mammary glands and tightening the skin. After all that - this admitted negligent plastic surgeon and his malpractice insurance company put that victimized patient thru a trial and appeal?
